Your brain cannot fully distinguish between what you vividly imagine and what you actually see. Same neurons. Same patterns. Neuroscientists call this a controlled hallucination. The mystics have been saying something similar for thousands of years. Which raises a delicious question:

If imagination and perception use the same machinery, what exactly is real?

Rev. Jim (Azaan) Lee Bio:

Rev. Jim (Azaan) Lee is Minister Emeritus of Unity of Las Vegas, having served in ministry for over 30 years trying to explain the unexplainable, love the unlovable (including himself), and pin point the infinite.

In 1994, he graduated from the Unity School of Religious Studies and proudly declared, “I’m done with school!” Life smiled gently and said, “We’ll see about that.” Decades later, he now finds himself in his second year of the Awakening Together Ministerial Preparation Program—proof that Spirit has a great sense of humor and a long memory.

Jim now lives in Ajijic, Mexico, where the roosters wake him up early enough to meditate. He serves on the Advisory Board of Awakening Heart Sangha, a nondual intentional community devoted to living from the awareness of love, unity, and truth.

His teachings weave together metaphysical Christianity and Eastern nondual wisdom, all grounded in one simple truth: what we’re seeking is already here, and always has been. You’ll often hear him remind others—with a smile—that awakening isn’t about getting somewhere, it’s about realizing you’ve never left.

In a climate of great uncertainty, polarity of thinking and a crying out for healing on a global scale, our Sunday Experience offers the inspiring message that the fundamental nature of the Universe and all beings is Goodness and Love.
